Women have long maintained a place in sports and sports history, from supporting husbands, brothers, and sons in athletics to paving their own way in the world of local sports. While women have not always been granted inclusive participation in  many sports and have encountered obstacles to their success, there have been women that have stood out in the public's mind for their contributions to female athletics and local sports legacy.
