When one first hears the word propaganda, for the most, the association that comes to mind is deception, lies and deceit, which is the opposite of what would be expected from the government. Nonetheless, propaganda has always existed throughout the history, taking different forms in art, literature, music,or speeches made by public figures. During World War II, posters and TV segments were a preferred method of propaganda as they incorporated both verbal (either spoken or written) and visual stimuli, it could be argued that the reason why U.S war efforts were so effective was largely due to such propaganda. Usually very detailed, well produced, and either inspiring patriotism or glamorizing war, these methods were used to stir the public in a needed direction. Much like a beautiful sunset painting which is made to evoke pleasant emotions, every poster was thoroughly designed with a specific purpose and feeling in mind. Propaganda in forms of posters were cheap and easy to make, and the messages they were conveying were understandable even to those who couldn’t read due to visual depiction. Holding power over information and media, the government was able to easily point to who is a foe and who is an ally. It didn’t matter whether the stereotypes used in propaganda hurt the minority in U.S, during that time, it was more important for the government to keep U.S in battle and continue to have support from it’s citizens.

As propaganda continues to evolve, the versions of it during World War II might seems as a too obvious of an emotional bait for modern people, whoever, those in charge of creating it at a time knew how it would affect their audience. Different batches of propaganda were created at different times to fit the situation in U.S, such as a need for more troops or a need for more people in factory positions. Some batches would even be used to instill guilt into people who are not helping the war efforts whatsoever. Many different propaganda techniques were used in art in order to gain control over the involvement of people in the war and unite the country under one mission.
