From the interview, Sumell explained what are the reasons making her wanting to join the project- The House That Herman Built. She said that instead of putting the effort on the project that she did not feel close, joining the project that can really bring the change for the community that she lives. (Himada, p.22). El Centro de la Raza is the good example corresponding to Sumell’s idea. El Centro de la Raza is non-profit organization, which is located in Beacon Hill. The main purpose of El Centro de la Raza is to help people who have difficulties of the civil rights in the Latino community. Specifically, it provides help to immigrants any races. There are five categories of programs they provide, first, Child & Youth Programs; second, human & emergency service; third, education & skill building programs; fourth, community building &advocacy. From my observation, there is no map inside of the building. There is only the board that shows the rooms information for some of the project that it has, but there is no detailed map which tells people where to go for the specific project. From the interview, I get the information that actually, the building is divided by different sections of projects depending on who the project is serving for. For example, the first floor is for the project that focuses on seniors; half of the second floor is for perinatal, the third floor is for the youth project. However, there is no map for the building to direct people to the different sections. In the website, “transborder immigrant tool”, it provides the mapping tool to people when they need the help for finding the water (Cárdenas, Carroll, Dominguez, Mehrmand and Stalbaum, Transborder Immigrant Tool). It is hard for the people who needs help knows where to go without the map. As a result, my map will be to guide people through each floors of the building. First of all, I will use the map that I drew during the visit. Then I will annotate the map with actual pictures on it. So when people see my map, they can click on the square with the name in order to see more details in the picture to gather more information.
