Torrid Zone

According to classical and medieval climate theory, the "torrid zone" is the latitudinal belt surrounding the Equator, which was thought to be impassible and hospitable to only to creatures who evolved to live in that climate. According to these theories, the torrid zone served as the limit point that guarded the hospitable realms of the northern hemisphere from the unknown Antipodes of the southern hemisphere.
