The International Prester John Project: How A Global Legend Was Created Across Six Centuries

Letter to Pope Innocent IV

This 1249 letter to Pope Innocent IV, sent by Odo, Bishop of Toscolono, is one in a series of texts of the mid-thirteenth century that notes that Güyük Khan was related in some way to Prester John. In this letter, the Khan becomes the grandson of Prester John, whose Christian daughter became Güyük's mother.
