Joāo Bermudez

Joāo Bermudez (1491-1570) was a barber-surgeon who traveled to the court of Emperor Dāwit II (1507–1540), where he stayed for two decades before traveling to Rome and Lisbon as the self-described first Catholic Patriarch of Ethiopia to attempt to secure military support against the Muslims.

Bermudez is known as "Mestre Joāo" in Álvares' True Relation.
