The International Prester John Project: How A Global Legend Was Created Across Six Centuries

Jean de Lastic's Letter to King Charles VII

In this letter, Grand Master of the Hospitallers Jean de Lastic writes the French king Charles VII to inform him of the great military successes the Ethiopian Emperor (i.e. Prester John) had acheived against the Muslims. Like earlier Crusader-era texts, the letter sets the expectation that Prester John's military successes through the Muslim world would continue, here into Egypt, Arabia, and Syria.

For the text, see Baum, Verwandlungen, p. 259.
