Obssesion with Technology

How many times have you been out with friends but everyone is on their phones? People are more concerned about letting others know what they are doing instead of actually doing it. App and sites like Twitter, Instagram and Facebook, are people just letting people get a glimpse of their day. Some people post thing constantly, like if people do not know what they are doing, the person posting will cease to exist. Now part of this is because humans are social beings, another part is a way to keep records of our lives. A human brain stores certain events deep inside it. Memories are the human's way to remind ourselves of things and places that have occurred in our lives. What technology does, is makes memories a real tangible thing whether it is a status post or a photograph. We want to preserve moments in our lives with pictures, videos, writings so later in life we can reflect on a visual aid instead of just relying on our mind. In Wendy Hui Kyong Chun, "The Enduring Ephemeral, or the Future Is a Memory," Chun states "... that the brain stores information as bits, which are then processed by it, and not as traces of events through the combination of neurons, which is a field-based or analogy-based system of memory." (Chun 163). This is how memories work in our brain. What we are doing with the constant use of technology is making our minds a physical entity. We take our phones everywhere so we will not "miss" an opportunity to capture a moment for future references. Chun also states, "By saving the past, it was supposed to make knowing the future easier." (154). We remember the past to know the future, in cycle, and memorabilia helps with our future.

We have fused ourselves to our phones in a way that makes us go crazy when we are not able to use them. The same thing goes for any other electronic device. We get territorial because whatever technological device we are possessing have become part of us. Part of our body. They become like an eternal drive for our brain and do not let just anyone use our devices in the same way we do not tell everyone everything about our lives or let just anyone touch us. The devices, whatever they may be, have become part of us. We take them wherever we can and use them whenever we want. We refuse to part ways from them.
