The illusion of humbleness

Gerald, possibly due to his positions, wants to promote humility, living in modesty and "mediocrity", as would be prudent for cleargy. However, the emphasis of his humbleness instead shows arrogance and give an impression of him holding himself above others who do not confirm to his understanding of humble living.
