Practical Scalar Guide for the Field of Digital History

Styling Pages

This page will go over the styling tab at the bottom of the page edit interface and how they enhance your page.  Page layouts will be covered in a separate page.

Thumbnail

According to the Scalar 2 features list, this currently has no visible effect in Scalar, but may in the future.

Key Image

Key images are images chosen for pages that perform a variety of roles in the Scalar.  For example, the image header on this page is the page's key image.  In other types of pages, such as book covers, the key image serves as the cover image.  In any case, the key image will often be displayed prominently, setting the mood for your page.

Background Image

Background images are images that are displayed behind your text.  See this page for an example.

CSS

Selecting this option will bring up a dialogue that will allow you to insert your own CSS, or Cascading Style Sheet, to Scalar.  CSS will allow you to change the styling of your page beyond what Scalar already has.  A basic CSS tutorial on this Scalar and usable code is located here.

Javascript

Much like the CSS tab, this will bring up a dialogue to allow you to insert your own Javascript into your page.  Unfortunately, there is no tutorial for Javascript in this book, but W3 schools, a separate and free website, contains a wealth of excellent information.

Audio

This tab will allow you to select an audio file to play in the background of your page.
