Posthuman Religion

Humans

One of the best types of mass human religious eschatology is Christian Rapture Theory. It centres around the concept of Tribulation which is a period of seven years of extreme dystopia that will occur and should be perceived as a warning of the end times. It is the time soothsayers insist is nigh: all people on Earth will experience extreme hardships like plagues, disasters, and mass extinction that will wipe out 3/4 of the world's population. Pretribulation theorists believe that a Rapture will occur before this begins, where God allows the most loyal followers of Christianity (both dead and alive) to ascend to Heaven (naked) and escape the doomsday, and then after the Tribulation is over, the Messiah (Christ, in Christianity) will return to reign over the newly purged world. Midtribulationists believe the Rapture will come at the halfway point, after what is refeerred to as the "beginning of sorrows" but before the worst part of Tribulation (called Great Tribulation) happens. Finally, (unsurprisingly) Posttribulationalists believe that the time of Tribulation is necessary for all Christians to endure, and after the end of it, they will be sanctified by the newly appointed Messiah and allowed to live on the Earth in peace again. Tribulation is thought to be the end of the prophecy found in the Christian Holy Book the Bible, in Daniel 9.
