Postcolonial Speculative Fiction

tradition and change

I enjoyed reading about the tradition of Carnival and how it was changed through space and time in the book. People often migrate, whether in real life or in Sci-fi stories. It's interesting to contemplate what traditions get taken and carry on unchanged, what gets changed over time, and what gets left behind. It's worth noting that every tradition serves or served some important purpose to the practicing culture. The needs of a society change and, thus, the traditions are also changed.
