Postcolonial Speculative Fiction

Question Response

You all have made valid comments about the importance that hair plays to identity. In reference to Mary's comment, I believe that you are correct with the issue gaining more attention in more present times. I believe the increase in police brutality and shootings has caused people to focus on their blackness. I think that's where the whole movement of being deem "woke" came from. Focusing on the hair may be one way that people believe is a easy way to showcase their identity. Once a majority started understanding the importance of hair to identity, it seems like more people started to distinguish how other actions can be microaggressions.
