The Murder of Edgar Allan Poe- George Egon Hatvary

Hatvary, George Egon. The Murder of Edgar Allan Poe : A Novel. 1st Carroll & Graf ed. New York: Carroll & Graf, 1997.

Edgar Allan Poe's own character Auguste Dupin investigates the mystery surrounding Poe's death, believing it to be murder.  It starts with Dupin finding out about Poe's death.  The first person narrator, Dupin, was apperently very good friends with Poe and reminisces about times spent together.  There are letters sent to Dupin from Maria Clemm, Dr. Snodgrass, and Elmira Shelton among others.  There are also scenes where Dupin recollects conversations between himself and Poe. Here Poe is a character with dialogue.  Dupin's investigation turns out to be a dangerous one.

The book moves along as Dupin investigates, finds clues, draws conclusions, makes a list of possible suspects.

The Author's note references Kenneth Silverman's biography of Poe.
