Phone Phreaking
"Phone phreaking" is a subset of hacker culture that developed in the 1960’s and lasted until the early 1990’s. Phone phreaking is an important event in the history of youth interventions in media, as it allowed individuals to use ingenuity to assert power over the monolithic telecommunications industry, by repurposing the technology of the industry itself. This wasn’t just a case of people learning about a technology - it was about applying skills in order to push the technology to its absolute limit - and sometimes beyond.
