Despite her captors' religious devotion and consistency, on the other hand, their minimalist lifestyle communicates little more than a lack of civilization and class. Bradley takes the time neither to accept nor respect a culture with which she is unfamiliar, and instead rationalizes her imposition of Puritanism as a necessary missionary effort.
