The East India Company allowed investors to, at first, back individual ships on their voyages and then moved towards selling stocks in the overall company by the mid-seventeenth century. By the start of the eighteenth century, here in the settlement of "Libertalia," East India Company ships were not only well-designed for hauling cargo, but their crews were full of particularly well-trained sailors and soldiers.
