  Fred Moten (b.1962) is one of the foremost scholars of Black studies, a highly innovative voice in critical theory, and a renowned poet and music critic.  His books include In the Break: The Aesthetics of the Black Radical Traditions (2003) and, most recently, consent not to be a single being (2017-18), a three volume collection of essays.  He is Professor of Performance Studies, Tisch School of the Arts, NYU.

  Willie Cole (b. 1955) is widely recognized for his sculptures, prints, and drawings that transform everyday objects into powerful icons reminiscent of African artwork and African-American labor.  His work is held in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Philadelphia Museum of Art, National Gallery of Art, MoMA, Cleveland Museum fo Art, and Detroit Institute of Arts museum, among many other institutions.  he is exhibited by Alexander and Bonin in New York.
