Norwegians in Texas

Settlements

During the era of Norwegian immigration to the United States, success was often measured by how well a settlement was doing. These Norwegian colonies were founded quickly and were many throughout the entire country. However, within Texas, a few stand out. Though most of these settlements did not have real staying power and eventually became ghost towns, they are important to discuss because of their icon status within Norwegian American history. Many of the Norwegian colonists in the Midwest knew the names of these Texas settlements. This section tells the stories of these settlements, which, though similar, have their own unique characteristics.
