  Carbon sequestration sounds difficult to understand, but it is really simple. The basic idea is that carbon in the atmosphere can be taken out of the atmosphere by plants, soil, and rocks and stored in them for a really long time. This is a very important regulating service as climate change continues. The cycling of carbon in and out of the atmosphere is called the "carbon cycle."
