Motherhood in Alice and Wonderland and The Junglebook

Mother Figures in Alice and Wonderland

Alice: While most of this is about characters that are a mother to Alice, Alice is also becoming a mother herself. She is able to help and take care of characters in wonderland and also learns how to be a mother to herself. Alice represents the post atomic child who has to learn about the world themselves without a mother figures assistance.
Queen of Hearts: The Queen of Hearts represents a 'bad mother'. She is quick tempered and can not be reasoned with and often the king has to go back and fix her mistakes. She is harsh to her playing cards and without the kings interference they would have all lost their heads many times over.
The duchess: The duchess is the queen's cousin and has a child. She does not know how to take care of anything and Alice takes the baby away because she can see how it has suffered at the hands of the duchess.
The caterpillar: While not really a mother in anyway, the caterpillar is one of the main helpers to Alice. He asks her who she is and tells her about the mushroom so she can get back to the correct size.
