He is most well known for his paintings that reference supernatural subject matter which had a considerable influence on future painters. Fuseli was rationalist, a school of painting which took after some of the great painters like Michelangelo, which tried to accurately convey the shape of the people and places he was painting. Fuseli went on to create realistic renditions of supernatural monsters and themes that had not yet been seen. His paintings were nearly biblical in import and the scale and detail made his paintings reverberate with audiences of the time. I will be looking at the following of his works: The Nightmare, Titania and Bottom, and Thor Battering the Midgard Serpent.
