There’s museums that hold contemporary art all over the United States from Chicago to Houston. But Cleveland’s MOCA is the only contemporary art museums to set foot in Northeast Ohio ever since it was funded back in 1968 as stated on the about page on MOCA’s website. However, the buildings current location was not its first. The newest location which is found on Euclid avenue was opened in 2012 after being built specifically for the museum to house it. The museum was designed to have a unique layout to fit the contemporary art feel that it holds. In the article by Mixed Media called “MOCA Cleveland Builds a Home”, Jill Snyder the executive director states how “our neighbors [at the old location] are a Sunoco, a Burger King and. Car wash. The new building is in proximity to all Cleveland’s museums and the university. This will allow us to expand our demographic beyond the hardcore to a broader audience” (Boucher 1). This led the museum to expand and welcome many new forms of contemporary work.
