Sidewalks..ish: UD's Slippery and Broken Paths to Class
A painfully obvious problem across the University of Delaware are the gaping holes in the sidewalks where bricks have either been broken or stolen. This causes problems for, not only people walking, but also people who use assistive devices to move from class to class. Wheelchair users can often get caught in these holes, causing a serious hazard. Trying to avoid them by going around, may seem like an obvious solution, however sometimes these gaps are so close, anyone who has trouble walking may find it more difficult to just try and swerve around them.
On top of this, UD’s bricks are incredibly slippery. The second it rains the sidewalk becomes a Sllliidewalk. There have been countless times where I have been walking to class and slipped, having to catch my balance mid air. Anyone who uses a cane or similar assistive devices are even more susceptible to injuries because of the bricks. Also, elderly people often walk through campus, and this can also pose many risks to them as well.
