New Crosswalk Light on Haines Street and Its Impact

When I was a freshman, I remembered this intersection on my walk from my dorm to mainstreet that I found particularly nerve racking. It was a busy driving and walking intersection and at times you would be waiting lengthy periods of time for either a car to stop and let you go, or for traffic to subside entirely. For the next school year, they put in a traffic light at this intersection that allowed allotted time for people walking to cross safely, allowing the walkability to be more effective and inclusive. However, going in certain directions still takes longer than others because of the time limit. I use this intersection every day and I know to block out extra time in my walk because I know I will be stuck there for a portion of time either waiting my turn to go according to the traffic light, or for there to be no cars. Although this is a step towards accessibility for walkers and the walkability in the area, it is still not fully efficient for individuals who travel on foot.
