Limitations of Public Transit
In February, I went on a date at the Delaware Art Museum in Wilmington. He took the SEPTA train to Wilmington, and I took a DART bus. The ride there went smoothly for both of us. I listened to music, stared out the window, and got out at the correct stop. When the date was over, he took SEPTA again with no issues, and I found my bus stop, pictured above. Plenty of buses passed me, and I got more nervous each time that I would miss it. Eventually, I saw the 010 bus approaching, and watched in awe as it flew past me and a few other people.
I was stranded in Wilmington, alone and freezing. I used the DART app to find another option, but I realized quickly as I walked that I wouldn’t get to it in time. I’m not familiar with Wilmington, and I didn’t feel comfortable walking around to other stops as it got darker. I ended up taking Uber back to campus that cost over $20, unlike the $1 bus fare. I was upset about the price, but I just wanted to be home. Other people who rely on the bus may have been stuck waiting for a while or running to another stop. I don’t know why that bus didn’t stop, but it could have derailed many people’s schedules who rely on it. I’m one of the lucky people not bound by the bus and any issues that come with it.
