Electric Vehicle Charger
With the rise in popularity of electric vehicles as a solution to climate change, there is more of a need for charging ports to charge these vehicles. However, electric vehicles are not the solution to climate change they are marketed to be, nor are they an accessible solution for most people. The kinetic elites, comprised of mostly upper class and educated people make up only a small percentage of the world’s population. Electric cars are expensive to purchase as well as maintain, so for most people, they are not a feasible option. Still, charging ports for electric cars are seen as an amenity, and apartment complexes are adding charging ports for electric cars, and using this as an excuse to raise rent, even if the tenants do not have a need for access to charging ports. The parking spots in front of this charging port are reserved for those who may need to access them. However, they are always empty, limiting the amount of accessible parking. By adding electric car chargers on property, apartment complexes minimize the amount of parking spots, and raise rent, even if the tenants do not have a use for them.
