  The Aztec empire was the last of the great Mesoamerican civilizations. At the height of its power, it covered most of northern mesoamerica. It’s capital, Tenochtitlan, stands on modern day Mexico city, making it the foundation of Mexico City culture. The Aztecs were one of the most advanced civilizations of its time, boasting accomplishments in trade, agriculture, art, and architecture. They dominated most of their neighboring states with the usage of Aztec warfare and fear (Cartwrite). 
  
  El imperio azteca fue la última de las grandes civilizaciones mesoamericanas. En el apogeo de su poder, cubría la mayor parte del norte de mesoamérica. Su capital, Tenochtitlán, se encuentra en la moderna ciudad de México, por esto es la base de la cultura de la Ciudad de México. Los aztecas fueron una de las civilizaciones más avanzadas de su tiempo, con logros en el comercio, la agricultura, el arte y la arquitectura. Dominaron la mayoría de sus estados vecinos con el uso de la guerra y el miedo  (Cartwrite). 
  
  
  The Aztec empire was guided by religion. It contained a pantheon of gods, a mix of older Mesoamerican and newer Mexica ones, that presided over every aspect of Aztec life. The Aztec calendar had the timing of ceremonies to honor these deities, including sacrifice. The Aztecs relationship with their gods was one based in fear. They relied on the gods for what they thought kept the natural world in order (Cartwrite). The Sun god, Huitzilopochtli, was said to fight off darkness on a daily basis. To keep the sun moving human blood and hearts were required. This practice also served to intimidate neighboring states, as both the stories and witnessing the action could be traumatic and jarring (Human Sacrifice). To the Aztecs, these ceremonies and gods, not only characterized their devotions; but also their fear of the natural world and their fear of facing similar repercussions to the sacrifices they subjugated their prisoners to, creating monsters of the gods and even themselves.
  
  El imperio azteca era muy religioso. Tenía un panteón de dioses, una mezcla de antiguos mesoamericanos y nuevos Mexicas, que regían sobre todos los aspectos de la vida azteca. El calendario azteca tenía las fechas de las ceremonias religiosas que incluían sacrificios para honrar a estos dioses. La relación de los aztecas con sus dioses estaba basada en el miedo. Confiaron en los dioses porque ellos pensaban que así se mantenía el mundo natural en orden (Cartwrite). Se decía que el dios del Sol, Huitzilopochtli, luchaba contra la oscuridad a diario para mantener el sol en movimiento, y para esto se necesitaban sangre y corazones humanos. Esta práctica también sirvió para intimidar a los tribus vecinas. Tanto las historias y el  presenciar los sacrificios humanos podrían ser acciones traumáticas (Sacrificio Humano). Para los aztecas, estas ceremonias y dioses, no solo caracterizaban sus devociones; pero también su miedo al mundo natural y su miedo a enfrentar las consecuencias de sus sacrificios que subyugaron a sus prisioneros, creando monstruos de los dioses y ellos mismos.
