About the Author

Harmony Bench is Assistant Professor of Dance at The Ohio State University where she teaches in the areas of Dance and Performance Studies. She received her PhD in Culture and Performance from UCLA, and she also holds degrees in Performance Studies (MA) from NYU and in Ballet (BFA) and Women’s Studies (BA) from the University of Utah.

Harmony’s research interests include histories and theories of corporeality, the impact of digital media on performing arts practices and scholarship, and critical theories of dance and performance. Her current work focuses on mobile and social media as sites for performance, and explores choreography as an analytical framework through which to approach movement and gesture in everyday mediatized spaces. The Mascot Moskovina project is part of a larger digital humanities project, Mapping Touring, that seeks to illuminate points of intercultural and interdisciplinary convergence among early 20th century performing artists. Harmony is also working on a print monograph tentatively entitled Dance as Common: Movement as Belonging in Digital Cultures.

She serves on the Board of Directors for the Congress on Research in Dance and on the Editorial Board of The International Journal of Screendance.
