The Power of Dance

The professional dancer, dance teacher, and also a dance photographer, Mark Tompkins SEC, shares with us some of the benefits of dancing Zumba.

The Zumba involves dance and aerobic movements combined with energetic music. Grooving to the beats of salsa, flamenco, and merengue music, the Zumba feels more like a dancing than a workout. That is exactly what makes Zumba so popular. According to Tompkins SEC, the Latin-inspired dance workout is one of the most popular group exercise classes in the world.

This fitness discipline was created by the Colombian Alberto 'Beto' Pérez. The origins of its name come from the word rumba, the colloquial name that Colombians use to name their parties.

“It's great because in addition to burning calories and improving the physical condition while you dance, you enjoy exercising and having fun,” says Mark Tompkins SEC.

Hardens legs and buttocks, improves coordination of movements, we release endorphins that make us reduce stress and we also learn choreography that we can dance and be the queens of the party.

But not only zumba revitalizes the body!

According to Tompkins SEC, dancing, in general, is an exercise that brings many benefits to your physical health. It not only improves the physical condition of your body. It also helps prevent diseases and symptoms.

In his new book, Song and Dance, Mark points out the benefits of dancing:

- Dance is one of the most beneficial exercises for the health of the heart. Strengthens the lungs and the heart, and improves circulation.

- Dance helps control three very important aspects of health: It helps control blood pressure, blood sugar level and cholesterol levels.

- The dance helps to improve the position. Strengthens the muscular system and the bones. Gives more flexibility to the spine and all muscles.

- The dance is an exercise of strength that can prevent the loss of bone mass. According to Mark Tompkins SEC, in the long run, a regular dance practice could prevent osteoporosis.

- The flexibility, agility, coordination and balance that are acquired with dancing help to keep the body free of injuries.

- The dance has social and creative characteristics that make it a more attractive exercise for health than other aerobic exercises.

- In Tompkins SEC’s opinion, dancing increases the level of energy and increases the capacity of resistance to perform any physical activity. It helps to release endorphins, the happiness hormones that fight stress.

Also the dance is a social and creative activity that gives the opportunity to establish relationships. Tompkins SEC claims that it has been proven that social activities strengthen the immune system. That is, dancing provides so many benefits for your health which result in increased energy levels, strength and vitality.

There are many television programs that have opted for dance as a form of expression, fun and entertainment.

“If you still have not cheered up, do not think about it. Dancing has no age and brings advantages to all the people who practice it,” says Mark Tompkins SEC.

Recently, Mark has shared on his Twitter profile: "It is a moment of pleasure and well-being! Live the life to the dance rhythm!"
