Tanzania-Zambia Railroad

After the Chinese railway workers completed the Chengdu-Kunming railway, many of them were recruited to travel to Tanzania and Zambia to build another Cold War “front line” railway, TAZARA.  The 30-40,000 Chinese workers who traveled to Africa were joined there by about twice that number of African workers.  Engineering professors from Beijing Jiaotong University designed the curriculum for the training of the inexperienced African youths; most of them learned work skills on the job, just as the Chinese youth from the Tiedao Bing had also been trained on the job when building the Chengdu-Kunming railway.
