The TOWERs are the border-crossing centers charging with a comprehensive approach to border control, keeping external forces out of Makoko. As the only border control entity in Makoko, the TOWERs are responsible for several duties combining border security, customs, and immigration.
There are four towers located on the boundaries. The central one is near the main bridge connected with Lagos. Foreign travelers and visitors can enter into from one of the TOWERs whereas registered Lagos residence need to enter Makoko only through the Central TOWER since the Area Boys still perceive Lagos is the largest source of threats to Makoko.
The TOWERs were established after the Regeneration Plan in 2014, to ensure the safety of all Makoko residence. As part of the Area Boys entities of power, the TOWERs are continuously watchful and alert to deter, detect and prevent threats to the area.
Each visitor needs to pay 200 Atos for a 3-day visiting. A long-term multiple entry permit is only open to the applicants who have particular proper reasons to enter into Makoko, such as education, health care etc.
