Looking through the Eastern Frame: Evaluating the Influence of "The 1001 Nights" on "The Decameron" and "The Canterbury Tales"

Through this Scalar presentation, you will gain a better understanding of how The Thousand and One Nights were created, transformed, disseminated, and influenced other great literary works in the medieval period. Two texts in particular—Boccaccio's Decameron and Chaucer's Canterbury Tales—exemplify the great contributions the Nights have given to western literature. More importantly, by looking at the similarities between these works, we can learn more about medieval social attitudes, especially when it comes to issues of gender.
