About the Author

Darren Byler is a doctoral researcher in the Department of Anthropology at the University of Washington where he studies the aesthetics and politics of urban life in Chinese Central Asia. He has contributed chapters to edited volumes on Transnational Chinese Cinema (Bridge 21 Press: July 2014) and The Poetics of Travel (Berghahn Press: Forthcoming); he has also cowritten essays on “Literature, Writing and Anthropology” and "Precarity" (Cultural Anthropology Online 2012; 2016). His co-translations of Uyghur poetry and short-fiction have appeared in Guernica, Pathlight, and Banango Street.
