Event Programming Ideas
- Documentary screening
- One of our first ideas was to host a showing of the film A Mão e a Luva: Story of a Book Trafficker, followed by a discussion session. This would have been a very interesting event, but there were some logistical issues involved in it, like finding a good space, acquiring A/V equipment, and obtaining a public showing license.
- We did not choose to include this in our program.

- Panel presentation
- This was an early and enduring idea. A panel presentation is a great way to expose people to differing viewpoints, so hosting one as part of our program would hopefully help foster communication and understanding.
- The greatest challenge involved with this is deciding on who should be invited as a panelist. It is important to cover a variety of points of view, and there is always a risk of cancellations.

- Potluck
- Food is a great way to bring people together, but dietary restrictions and allergies could be a potential minefield for a large, public event.
- Instead of a potluck, we decided to offer a selection of catered, international desserts.

- Art installation
- Visuals are often powerful and memorable, so we decided that commissioning an art installation, to be displayed during the week of our event. This would hopefully not only help generate interest in the event itself, but also be an interesting and compelling feature on the day of the event.

- Button making station
- The idea behind having a button making station would be to have attendees each make two or three buttons that show in some way what peace means to them, and then encouraging them to trade buttons and discuss their designs.
- The greatest challenge in this is sourcing a button maker - a good one can be somewhat expensive. To help offset the cost, we asked a few student groups if they (FLIF, FIP, Crafty Slisters) would be willing to split the cost.

- Ceremony with Indigenous Elder
- We thought that it would be important to invite and Indigenous elder to come to the event, although none of us have experience or connections to this. A LISSA member offered to help guide us through the process of inviting someone, so we will reach out to them going forward.

- Radio feature
- One final idea we had concerning the event was to have our international partner Clara Chu sit down for an interview, which we would then broadcast on CJSR on the show Shout for Libraries.
