Event Programming Ideas
- Documentary screening
- One of our first ideas was to host a showing of the film A Mão e a Luva: Story of a Book Trafficker, followed by a discussion session. This would have been a very interesting event, but there were some logistical issues involved in it, like finding a good space, acquiring A/V equipment, and obtaining a public showing license.
- We did not choose to include this in our program.
- Panel presentation
- This was an early and enduring idea. A panel presentation is a great way to expose people to differing viewpoints, so hosting one as part of our program would hopefully help foster communication and understanding.
- The greatest challenge involved with this is deciding on who should be invited as a panelist. It is important to cover a variety of points of view, and there is always a risk of cancellations.
- Potluck
- Food is a great way to bring people together, but dietary restrictions and allergies could be a potential minefield for a large, public event.
- Instead of a potluck, we decided to offer a selection of catered, international desserts.
- Art installation
- Visuals are often powerful and memorable, so we decided that commissioning an art installation, to be displayed during the week of our event. This would hopefully help generate interest in the event itself, start conversations
- Button making station
- Radio feature
- Ceremony with Indigenous Elder
