LIBA402 Final Project: Becoming-Animal : April 4

Wrapping Up and Final Reflections

Welcome to Sonya's Scalar Project

Although I hate saying goodbye, and goodbyes seem definite (although they should not be), I hope this project has opened your eyes in the ways that Instagram has an infinite number of possibilities that exist within its web. I hope this page is not the end of what you may encounter when it comes to the Russian Instagram Girl and her Big Cat, but rather a spring board for any future encounters with what I have displayed. If you have any questions, or would like to chat and have an open discussion, you can reach me at: sonyasvichtcheva@gmail.com!

For me, submitting this project feels a little bittersweet as I have been passionately involved in researching this topic, and I hope I have somewhat gotten to understand what becoming-animal looks like in a posthuman context. I hope this project has also given you an understanding that Internet phenomenons are not small and are connected to so many different types of relationships and their histories - and one has the possibility to dive deeper and deeper the more time you spend, racking up the screen time on your phone. However, the Internet is overwhelming too and I found myself getting lost at some points - especially working through the hashtags. There is an infinite number of combinations that can be put together with the hashtags (#serval, #servals, #servalsrussia, and the list can go on and on), and I cannot imagine how fast they multiply each day.

Thank you for spending the time with me and giving this project space! I hope you enjoyed! I will link all my media that I used if you would like to just scroll through to see how much of this project is based on a type of visual culture.

Although the posthuman objective is to move beyond just the human, it still requires the human to be part of the discussion. Therefore, as much as the serval is important in this project, so is the woman who accompanies it. I also wanted to use Braidotti's golden rules as I found they don't exist within a certain discipline in this project (it mixes media studies with historical and political discussions). Using these guides, I felt I could orient myself and reach a number of different important aspects to this topic (it also made me realize how much I could go into it, beyond just looking at the photos online).
