Drag Ball [1998]

The first annual Drag Ball was held on January 30, 1998.

Though I couldn't find much archival material besides this article, the Drag Ball was an important step on the path from acceptance of butch lesbians to acceptance of openly trans students. The event provided a safe space to transcend gender expectations and redefine or reframe personal identities.

As the article notes, Drag Ball was popular, amplifying its effects on the community as an accepting body. Drag Ball not only allowed space for personal growth and exploration, it also encouraged the community as a whole to reconsider its notions of the gendered spaces of a women's college.
