Infrastructure
Creating Access
- Action 1: Ensure students and educators have broadband access to the internet and adequate wireless connectivity
- Action 2: Curate and share information about access to options for low-cost or free home internet access
- Action 3: As a preliminary step toward achieving the goal of a 1:1 learning environment , a baseline/minimum set of technology items should exist at each school. (i.e. Every teacher has a digital learning tool and a projector in their classroom and students have access to digital tools.)
- Action 4: Implement a District-wide Learning Management System (LMS). Provide the training and support necessary to ensure the LMS provides the greatest value possible to students, staff, and parents
- Action 5: Establish a digital repository of online content, and implement a system for sharing successes (upload lessons and get feedback), capturing lessons learned. Ensure the necessary resources are devoted to the establishment and ongoing maintenance of this repository
Providing Support
Three levels of support are needed to carry out each instructional recommendation: personnel support, resource support, and parent support.Resource Support
- Action 6: Provide schools with a guide to help them identify the appropriate types and quantities of devices recommended to support achievement of their learning goals.
- Action 7: Develop a variety of District supports such as additional professional learning opportunities, an effective communication plan, and progress monitoring tools.
- Action 8: Create a model/formula to support schools when determining the technical and instructional resources necessary to support their plan (Network Support, Mobile Device Management, MCSA, & ITF) - Central staff vs LD staff vs school-based staff
Personnel Support
- Action 9: In order to provide supports to schools as they are striving to reach a 1:1 environment the district should:
- Parent Support
- Action 10: Provide schools with a model plan for parent engagement around technology that includes examples of best practices.
- Action 11: Engage in an annual review and update of related policies
- Action 12: Establish relationships and processes to ensure departments (e.g., Division of Instruction, Information Technology Division, Parent Community Service Branch, and Facilities) collaboratively work together to support instructional needs.
