These two paramounts of culture, the university library and performance hall, surround the ultimate american symbol: the flag. 
  On this day, at this hour, as I walked to our rendezvous point, I saw members of our military paying homage to the flag. They proudly raised the stars and strips in this daily ritual. A ritual we would see replicated upon our arrival at the dump site.
