Introduction
This year’s online exhibit allows us to continue to highlight important parts of Los Angeles history through virtual storytelling to a wide variety of online users. LA Stories: Community Spotlight focuses on stories in the archives that are not widely known but are an intrinsic part of Southern California history. The stories shared throughout this exhibit highlight individuals, families, organizations, communities, and/or physical locations that offer a deeper look at the history of Los Angeles. They serve as a reminder that there are still stories to be discovered about the lived experiences of Angelenos, past and present.
The exhibit is organized around two themes, People and Places. The first theme, People, is further subdivided into Communities and Individuals; and the second, Places, into Landmark Sites and Landmark Events. Many of the stories spotlighted in this virtual exhibit could be placed in more than one theme or category, which speaks to the universality of these little known stories. We hope these invite us to dig deeper into collections to discover a broader, more inclusive view of Los Angeles history.
