A SHORT STORY OF GLOBAL WARMING AND KNOWLEDGE PRODUCTION IN THE 21st CENTURY - Response

CHAPTER / ACT II
RESPONSE

After boarding I sat down somewhere in the middle of the cabin. In front of me two guys appeared. Both looked like they had been in the sun for too long. The to Crab-Men squashed themselves into the seats and instantly complained about one thing after the other. First of all, the seats were far too small for their well-nourished, scarlet bodies. One of the guys began to accuse the other of being responsible for the strong sunburn they both had gotten on the grounds that the other had chosen a destination directly beneath a big hole in the ozone layer. The other guy said in reply that the sun was not always that strong in that area during the last years of their apparently frequent visiting, and that he couldn’t know that.
I really don’t get how some people are just filled with ignorance when it comes to accepting that a climate change induced by mankind is indeed happening. Like those two guys, many people are arguing that the currents global warming is completely natural, and also dare to make it look like there are more positive than negative effects on the life on earth. “Hey, summers will be warmer in central Europe, isn’t that great?” Really, people are stupid and ignorant sometimes.
After we got airbone both straightaway exhibited their remarkable snoring skills and I also decided to take a nap until dinner was served.

OBAMA: Hey Xi, how are you doing on this fine day?
JINPING: Barack, old friend, I am doing not so well today, but that is not your concern. How are you doing?
OBAMA: Well, it is going quiet well here in my USA. Everything seems to be under control so far.
JINPING: Sounds good. But let me ask you, why do you call me this late at night?
OBAMA: There is something we need to talk about. I just finished everything I wanted in my current term of office. But there is one thing left on my bucket list.
JINPING: Come on, tell me!
OBAMA: I want to solve this whole climate change, global warming thing. And I need you for that.
JINPING: Oh, Barack, how often did we talk about this? There is no way I can give you anything on that.
OBAMA: But Xi, we need to act know. I know we have our differences. But we definitely need an “intensification of consciousness of the world as a whole”. (Olausson, 2009: 1)
JINPING: "As the Paris climate summit negotiations near their end, China and the United States must strengthen coordination with all parties, and work together to ensure the Paris climate summit reaches an accord as scheduled […] This will be beneficial for the international community," (Reuters 2015)
OBAMA: Ok Xi, how about that. I will do what I can to show you, that the world community will unite on this, and as soon as I give you proof of that you will do anything in your power. "The United States is willing to maintain close coordination with China to achieve success at the Paris climate summit," (Reuters 2015)
JINPING: That sounds fine. Thank you for your call, Barack!
OBAMA: You’re welcome!

After turbulences woke me and a couple more hours went by I got off the plain and took a cab to my hotel. I wanted to ask the two guys how they would link their travelling habits to a change in weather conditions they suffer, but they were already up and away. I was still very disturbed by my dream. I read a lot about global politics concerning global warming lately. There are many conflicts that have nothing to do with global warming itself. There are technologies, there is money and there is the knowledge to take lots and lots of different actions to challenge climate change. And as modern information technologies made it possible to link all parts of the world and made it possible, that everybody everywhere is able to know about global warming and the actions that need to be taken. But the main knowledge distribution still lies in the hands of local media conglomerates, who all tell a varying degree of truth and present different levels of proof which effects the acceptability among citizens about climate change and risks. (Olausson, 2012: 2). If the world community would overcome this, things would move much faster.
I think that is what Xi Jinping meant by uniting all countries. How noble of him.
