Video Essay Workshops
Workshop 1: Pick A Scene
Goals:
– Identify a scene.
– Cut a scene.
– Apply two annotations. One before or after your media. One on top of the imported media.
– Add citation for the film. Use MLA style.
We will be using iMovie. If you'd like to use different video software, you are welcome to! However, you will be responsible for learning and troubleshooting the software. The Technology Learning Center can also help.
iMovie:
- Top left: navigate what in your computer.
- Top middle:
- Import media and add audio, titles, backgrounds, and transitions. You can scrub by scrolling over the imported media. You can select which parts of the media that you want to add to your timeline. The gear to the far right of this section will allow you to adjust the Clip Size, Zoom, and Audio.
- Titles: Offers a selection of ways to add text. You can drag them above or on top of your media in the timeline. In order to edit the text, you'll need to use the viewer to the right.
- Top right: Viewer with more refined editing options.
- Bottom: Your timeline. This is where you will be doing your editing!
How to save:
- Go to File -> Share -> File -> NAMEOFSHOW-FirstNameLastNameInitial.
- Select Resolution: 540p
- Quality: Medium.
A reminder that the Technology Learning Center has iMovie and is open until midnight Sunday-Thursday.
