Kentucky College for Women has progressed and adapted to change over its dynamic history. This change has encompassed the opening of the college in 1860 as the Caldwell Female Institute, its progression to the Kentucky College for Women in 1913, to the physical merge of its campus with Centre College in 1962. Developments in women's rights are evident throughout the history of KCW; the enactment of Title IX in 1972 served as a milestone for women in education. More recently, Centre College has adapted these changes through its implementation of the law. These notable events combine to demonstrate the progression made throughout Centre College's history.
