He was a successful businessman who founded the Heymann Oil Center. He first ran a department store, which included Lafayette's first supermarket. He earned his customers' business with reasonable and affordable prices. During times of crises, such as the Great Depression, Heymann generously lowered his prices and distributed credit for customers with money troubles. He was also well known for his philanthropic work around Lafayette, such as funding for medical centers and participating in disaster relief.
