Japanese Immigrants in the Laundry and Restaurant Businesses

Introduction

This project will compare the lives of two Japanese picture brides, Nami Yonegura and Tsui Asakawa. Both immigrated to the United States in 1918 and married men who worked in the laundry and restaurant industries, respectively. In the following pages, I will describe the context of this time period, present papers documenting these women's lives, and make conjectures about how the context relates to what I found in the documents.
