"End"
Interactive Fiction narratives effectively allow players to guide conversation by granting freedom of direction based on subjectivity, but the freedom granted partially limits interactions between players and online characters. Often times, IF narratives adopt this concept of freedom restriction in attempt to mirror the limitations that people experience in real life. Although interactivity is essential towards attaining a “win” within online narratives, winning is subjective in the eyes of the player since no “end” is ever established within the game. The differential aspect of Interactive Fiction that separates it from typical narratives is the fact that it promotes a false illusion of freedom which players adopt prior to online engagement. Consequently, Interactive Fiction creates a fraudulent aspect of the genre, as it convinces players that they are generating different versions of possible conversations, when in reality, players are indulging an online script constructed by authors in attempt to simulate ideal human interaction.
