Fargo and How it Has Changed

By Taylor Daugherty

The idea of transportation is an immediate thought in city life including in the towns of Fargo, ND and the closer cities surrounding it like Moorhead, MN. With increasing population growth and with the industry in the today’s economy for which the idea of transportation with goods and services has changed throughout the whole community. Transportation was impacted by the whole railroad industry back in the 1870s, when the Northern Pacific Railroad became a part of the area, they were creating new mechanically used industries surrounding a newly founded population. Fargo, ND truly only formed once the transportation over the Red River was established, and availability of new places such as Minneapolis, MN.When the railroads were formed in the area of Fargo and Moorhead the people who once lived in the area of Minneapolis were able to conduct a new production of transportation. Transportation has become individualized changing along with the Fargo area, which was created upon the aspects of the Depot.

A quote of an article of Transportation from The National Academies of Science, Engineering, states that today “The United States uses 28% of its total energy each year to move people and goods from one place to another.”[1] The contribution of the energy that is used from overall transportation to mobile device with an consumption of the resources is mostly used for personal products, such as trucks and boats. The mobile devices such as these, have became more attentive. Vehicles for which we have always known but still continue to grow on, with the involving population. Something the Fargo area doesn't have is subway trains; they are heavily used in high populated areas.[2] Subway Trains are much faster than regular trains but are used under ground. But the standard locomotive isn’t used very much any more, except for museums and tourist attractions.

During the 1870s the choices of conveyance in the country. Until people came up with the idea of having another use for the railroad industry. [3] A new plan of high efficiency involving new electrical sources and popular advertisements were contributed to the cause of the company's industry. Wanting to act in new technologies and maintain the idea of the new and improved systems. While the railroad had trains, the public and the streets seem to become more interested in the new creation of the car. Involvement in the cars created a nonsensical contribution the the transportation involving trains. Cars such as Henry Ford’s Model T price’s increased and decreased continually of hundreds of dollars.[4] While the prices wavered for train tickets in certain areas of the country. Shown in the new picture from the year 2016, the construct of the Depot is shown but also the different applicability that is contributed with the technology of the area.

The city of Fargo was founded in 1871, which created an act of usage for the Red River throughout through city contribution.[5] “In fact, the city was named for William G. Fargo, a director of the Northern Pacific Railroad, and co-founder of Wells Fargo Express Company.” [6] Fargo was built on the construction of the railroad, and is still there to prove where the people of the town came from. Most people wouldn’t have known that unless taught and or told. They were in search of new resources to provide new land for harvest. Between the time of which the town was founded and today the people have forgotten, not paying attention to the surroundings of the people besides their own devices of new and improved technology.

In the historic picture to the rephotograph of the Depot looks well cared for, and as the whole town changes that one area has stayed the same. The railroad is still around and has merged with Burlington, Great Northern, and Spokane Portland and Seattle to form a Burlington Northern system back in 1970.[7] Which is still standing through the Main Avenue in Fargo. The area from where the station stands is now heavily populated with shopping malls and overall places to eat.

Overall the concept of the ideas of having different views of how the town has developed over time continuing to with growth in the community of Fargo and Moorhead. Which changes the aspects of the area growth since the time the town was created back in the 1870s. Now the area is constantly changing to the ideas of new and improved in the world of technology. Even though, the community for which it only began because of travels searching for new resources. From the pictures the idea still stands that we are changing and continue to change.
