As a judge, his word is final in court, and his function in the game is to hear the arguments of both sides until the truth is known. He has to trust the evidence more than the clients, but he also must hold true the possibility that a defendant can be innocent. His place in between the two lawyers shows how he mediates between the two viewpoints.
