Introduction to Sample GRI Assignment for PAS271
Oviatt Library Research Fellows Ellen Jarosz (Special Collections and Archives Librarian) and Steve Kutay (Digital Services Librarian) are developing an instructional tool, the GRI, that will incorporate primary and secondary sources from many locations, including those from Special Collections and Archives and the Oviatt Library's Digital Collections, into undergraduate learning in the Document Based Question (DBQ) format. The tool and templates will allow teaching faculty to provide context, create assignments, and present a set of primary and secondary sources available in myriad physical and virtual locations within a single interface.
We have designed three mock assignments, each developed within the framework of a current CSUN course, to illustrate the GRI tool for faculty interested in this pilot project. The subject content is provided as an example only. Actual selected archival resources, subject content, and assignment prompts will ultimately be created by participating faculty members for their specific courses. Use the navigation menu at left to view sample assignments.
